Steve Gabris is a senior delivery, governance and transformation leader with experience across financial services, payments, government, fintech, regulatory change and complex operating environments.
He works with organisations to improve how strategy turns into execution, with a focus on practical governance, stronger operating models, clearer decision-making, regulatory discipline and better delivery confidence.
Steve has led and supported major transformation and regulatory initiatives across organisations including Australian Payments Plus, BNY, Westpac, Commonwealth Bank, the Reserve Bank of Australia, J.P. Morgan and PALO IT. His work has covered enterprise delivery coaching, agile transformation, financial crime programs, AML and KYC operations, vendor onboarding, registry operations, implementation delivery, PMO uplift, operating model design and executive reporting.
Across these roles, Steve has developed a reputation for bringing structure to complexity. He has worked closely with executives, delivery teams, project managers, product teams, operations teams and governance functions to make delivery more transparent, controlled and outcome-focused.
A significant part of Steve’s career has involved regulated environments where delivery must be supported by evidence, control and accountability. This includes registry and operational improvement work at J.P. Morgan, vendor onboarding and AML/KYC program delivery at Commonwealth Bank, financial crime transformation at Westpac, and program management of KYC and AML operational office activity in Europe.
Steve is also the co-founder of Branova, an advisory business focused on helping organisations prepare for and respond to AML/CTF obligations. Through Branova, Steve brings together his experience in regulatory programs, operational design, compliance readiness, customer due diligence, screening, reporting and practical implementation support.
His approach is shaped by a simple belief: governance should not slow delivery down. Done well, it should give leaders confidence that risks are understood, decisions are visible, dependencies are managed, obligations are clear and teams are focused on the right outcomes.
Through Gabris Group Advisory, Steve helps organisations align strategy, operations and execution. His work focuses on delivery and governance uplift, program recovery, leadership support, operating model improvement, regulatory delivery and the practical use of AI to reduce manual reporting effort and improve delivery insight.
Steve is particularly interested in how organisations can use AI responsibly within project, program and governance environments. Not as a replacement for experienced leadership, but as a way to improve visibility, test assumptions earlier and give leaders better information for decision-making.
Alongside his corporate and advisory work, Steve is active in community leadership. He serves as Deputy Chairman of Alive 90.5FM, supports Rotary initiatives across youth, membership and community engagement, and has contributed to several not-for-profit and multicultural community organisations.
